NAPA 2014 Quality in Construction Award

January 28, 2015

Lanham, Md. — The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) announced today that Gray & Son Inc. of Timonium, Md., has won a 2014 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement. The company received its award on Wednesday, January 28, at a ceremony during the association’s 60th Annual Meeting in Marco Island, Fla.

"Quality pavements are something every road builder strives to construct. We want to build pavements that deliver on the promise of high performance and drivability for the public," said William C. Ensor III, NAPA 2014 Chairman. "Projects that earn a Quality in Construction Award have been measured against industry best practices designed to live up to that promise. I’m proud to say that, in earning a 2014 QIC Award, Gray & Son Inc. has met or exceeded these rigorous quality standards."

Gray & Son Inc. won the award for their work on the outer loop of MD 695- Outer Loop from MD 7 to MD 150 in Maryland. The mill and overlay project was on a high-traffic volume area on I-695. To reduce impacts on drivers, the roadway surface was removed during the night — minimizing inconvience to the traveling public. Gray & Son partnered with the State Highway Administration to resolve a traffic design issue. The completed project received incentive pay for both density and consistancy of the asphalt mixture.
