Heavy Equipment Operator (Grader, Loader, Dozer, and Hoe Operators)
JOB DUTIES:
May operate one or several types of large power construction machinery, such as skid steer, end dump, bulldozers, graders, and or skid loaders to excavate, move and grade earth, erect structures or pour concrete or other hard surface pavement.
Job Duties:
- Actively promote and willingly support a safety conscious culture. Follow all safety regulations and company policies. Take a proactive approach to avoiding potential hazards such as hitting utility lines, other equipment, coworkers and falling objects. Active participation in proactive safety programs to assist with reducing the experience modification factor. Take the initiative to mentor all new hires on your crew. Willing participant in safety-related training programs to increase skill set and knowledge base.
- Responsible for daily equipment greasing, morning “walk arounds” and fluid checks. Complete daily maintenance checklist to ensure your equipment is properly maintained, and to ensure the proper preservation of equipment maintenance records.
- Adjust hand wheels and depress pedals to control attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing brooms. Start engines, move throttles, switches and levers, and depresses pedals to operate machines such as bulldozers, excavators, graders and backhoes.
- Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines or ground, or position equipment following hand signals of other workers. Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
- Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, and materials, using trucks, tractors, power cranes, shovels, graders, and related equipment. Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks, and to distribute and level earth or terrain.
- Willingly attend and support Foremen/Superintendents during morning huddles and toolbox talks.
- Other duties as assigned as assigned by your Foreman or Superintendent.
Education & Experience
- High School graduate or equivalent specific work-related experience.
- Two to four years heavy equipment operation experience.
- Prefer background in road or general construction.
- Current driver’s license.
