Bob Webbert, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Equipped with his master plumbing license, Bob Webbert opened a plumbing, heating and underground utility business in 1979. He came onboard at Gray & Son in 1988, when he and his father-in-law, George Palmer, decided to merge their businesses. Webbert immediately became executive vice president of the company and was promoted to president in 1993. Today, he is the chief executive officer of both Maryland Paving and Gray & Son. For many years, Webbert also sat on the board of directors (including as president in 1994-1995) for the Baltimore Country Highway Contractors Association, as well as on the board of the Maryland Highway Contractors Association. And, since 1995, he proudly has served on the board of directors for Emerge, a non-profit organization that provides homes, work, schooling and more for individuals with developmental, physical and mental health disabilities. In 2001, Webbert received Emerge’s annual president’s award for his continued service and support.
Rick Scheetz, President and Chief Operating Officer
Rick Scheetz came to Gray & Son from High Concrete Group in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he was the president and chief operating officer of one of the nation’s largest precast concrete companies. Prior to his tenure at High Concrete, Scheetz held various leadership positions in the construction materials industry, including vice president and general manager for Carmeuse North America’s Industrial Sands Division and several key upper management positions for Lafarge North America. Scheetz earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Delaware, a master’s degree in mining engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, and a master’s degree in business administration from Loyola University at Baltimore.
Joel Stockbridge, Vice President of Operations
As the grandson of George Palmer, the son of Barbara Webbert and the stepson of Bob Webbert, Joel Stockbridge was born and raised into the Gray & Son family. In high school, Stockbridge started working part-time for the company during his summers off. After graduation, he joined the company full-time as a blacktop laborer. Stockbridge then transitioned to equipment operator for 10 years and – for two of those years – also served as an acting foreman for the grading division. In 2000, he became superintendent of the grading/pipe division and was promoted to general superintendent of all the divisions in 2007. Since 2012, Stockbridge has served as Gray & Son’s Vice President of Operations.
Bill Poole, Executive Vice President & General Manager of Asphalt Division
Bill Poole came to Gray & Son in January 2020 from Azzil Granite Materials in the Metro NY City area, where he was their Managing Director. Prior to this he was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Tilcon New York, part of the CRH family of businesses. Bill has been in the construction and construction materials business for 35 years. He has held leadership positions with Lafarge North America in Buffalo, NY, Rinker Material in Everett, WA and Las Vegas, NV, Lopke Granite in Las Vegas, NV, and Frontier Stone in Lockport, NY. Bill has held board positions with many Organizations and Associations where he has worked. Most recently he has served as President of the Hudson Valley Council for Boy Scouts of America and is a past President of the NY Materials Association. Bill is an Eagle Scout and holds a BA in Math and History from Potsdam Collage, and a Micro MBA from the University of Buffalo.
Jeff Graf, Senior Vice President of Asphalt Operations
Jeff Graf got his start in the asphalt industry more than 30 years ago, starting as a laborer and equipment operator for Miller Asphalt Products. While at Miller, he not only helped build his first plant – and then later managed and maintained the plant – but he learned how to develop the mix designs and supervised quality control. After leaving Miller in 1990, Graf worked briefly for Laurel Sand and Gravel before joining Maryland Paving in 1991 as plant manager for the Finksburg facility. He became the company’s vice president of operations in 1996 and the executive vice president in 2011. Graf also has served as chairman of the board for the Maryland Asphalt Association and chairman and co-chairman of specification teams for the Maryland State Highway and Maryland State Asphalt Association. Additionally, he sits on the Quality in Construction team for the National Asphalt Paving Association.
Jay Hergenroeder, Vice President and Chief of Estimating
Jay Hergenroeder has been a loyal team member at Gray & Son since he started with the company in 1987 as an assistant estimator and field testing supervisor. With a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Maryland, Hergenroeder became an estimator and project manager for Gray & Son in 1992. Today, he is the company’s vice president of estimating for all private work. Since 2005, he also has served as the alternate director for the Home Builders Association of Maryland.
Pete Placke, Vice President/Senior Estimator
Pete Placke served Gray & Son as an estimator and project manager for 11 years before becoming the company’s vice president of public estimating in 2005. Prior to his work at Gray & Son, he served as a project engineer and estimator for 11 years for Genstar Stone Products. Placke earned bachelor of science degrees in both civil engineering and in environmental engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from York College of Pennsylvania. In addition to his work at Gray & Son, Placke serves on the board of directors for both the Maryland Transportation Builders and Materials Association and the Baltimore County Highway Contractors Association.
Christopher Eisenhart, Vice President of Project Management
Before being promoted to his current position, Chris spent the past 13 years working for Gray and Son as an Estimator and Project Manager. Prior to his employment with Gray and Son, Chris worked for Lafarge-NA and other Baltimore based contractors in the same capacity. Chris is a graduate of Towson State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree.
Brandon Bonanno, General Manager Demolition & Materials Resources
Brandon Bonanno came to Gray & Son from MCM Management Corporation where he was Executive Vice President of one the nation’s largest demolition companies. Prior to his tenure at MCM, Bonanno held various leadership positions with environmental consulting firms (CH2M Hill and KCI Technologies) as well as working for the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). Brandon earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC).
Diane Carter, Director of Human Resources
Diane Carter joined the company in 2012 bringing over 20 years in domestic and international HR management experience. Diane previously worked at Travelers, University of Maryland Medical System, Nasdaq and Lafarge. As a graduate of the University of Connecticut, she is a dedicated fan of UCONN Huskies basketball. Diane holds professional designations of Certified Compensation Professional (CCP); Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM SCP).
Mike Hunke, Vice President of Finance
Mike Hunke started with the organization in 2011 after gaining significant experience from holding senior finance leadership roles with Hydro Aluminum-Norsk Hydro, Lafarge North America and Aggregate Industries. Early on in his career, prior to entering the construction materials industry, he was a commercial loan officer at a regional Midwest bank focused heavily on Small Business Administration loan packages. Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration from North Dakota State University where he continues to serve on the Business School’s Accounting and Information Services Advisory Board. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Phoenix. Mike is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant.
Katie McInnes, Communications/Marketing Manager
The daughter of Bob & Barbara Webbert and granddaughter of George Palmer, Katie McInnes has been a part of the Gray & Son family since the day she was born. After graduating in 2002 with a BA in Communications from New England College of New Hampshire, McInnes returned home and immediately began learning the family business. Starting her career in Accounting responsible for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, Katie then spent a brief period in Estimating learning about take-off before transitioning into the world of Human Resources for several years. In 2011, McInnes became the Communications / Marketing Manager for both Gray & Son and Maryland Paving.
Barbara Webbert, Gray & Son/Maryland Paving Management Vice President
Barbara Webbert has been part of the company’s history since she was three years old, when her father, George Palmer, started working for Oscar Gray. After graduating from high school, Webbert earned an associate degree from Villa Julie College. Soon thereafter, she joined the Gray & Son office staff. She also assisted her husband, Bob Webbert, with his plumbing and utility business, supporting him with various administrative duties.
