Public Perceptions: Why Is There So Much Noise?

You wake up bright and early in the morning and instead of being awoken by the peaceful sounds of birds chirping and the usual sound of your alarm clock you realize you’ve awoken to a loud drilling sound. Oh no! Construction crews are on your block this morning.

Whether they’re there to repair a broken utility, fix up a house on the block, or patch a road, hopefully, their presence is a minor inconvenience that leads to future improvements. In the meantime, there are a few things you can do to get through the noise.

Remember that everybody has their designated work time and construction tends to need to be completed during daytime hours. Crews can start as early as 7 a.m. but a courteous crew should give notice about 48 hours in advance and be wrapped up for the day by late afternoon. If you find that a crew is working well into the night or way earlier than expected in the morning, it is likely due to safety or traffic.

At Gray & Son, we recognize noise issues and try to be polite to the surrounding community or area, however, some noise may be necessary for safety. Backup alarms alert those on the ground to be aware of their surroundings and you can’t really get around the noise that comes with jackhammering.

In the end, everything that crews do is ultimately done to promote the safety of crew and bystanders so a little patience goes a long way.
