Project Overview
This construction of general purpose lanes and express toll lanes involved 405,000 tons of asphalt (between the two contracts) in six lifts, installation of wedge level to make the two ends of different contracts meet, patching, base course, intermediate surface course and surface course.
Gray & Son met project schedules and completed the project on time, despite several key challenges, including:
- The sequence of construction
- Major traffic switches
- Coordination with other trades involved in the project
- Weather-related challenges
- Working under traffic; the surface course was installed at night under full traffic conditions

- 2010 National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) Quality in Construction Award
- 2011 National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) Quality in Construction Award
